Fisherman's Trail
a summary
Navigation
- The Fisherman's Trail is marked by blue and green signposts. The first stages (if you walk from north to south) are well-marked, but I find the later stages to have confusing signs that either would lead me to the wrong path or are too small and just difficult to find ([[Fisherman’s Trail, Day 11 - Salema to Luz to Lagos (26 km)]]). Honestly I'm glad I still downloaded the GPX files and had the app because otherwise I would have gotten lost so many times in the latter part of the hike.
- You will see multiple signs on the trail, since the Fisherman's Trail would often converge with other trails such as the Historical Way and the Grand Route.
- I read that you can actually get the maps of the trail in Porto Covo, but I couldn't find any shop selling one (maybe I didn't try hard enough). So I downloaded the GPX files of each trail from the Rota Vicentina official website and loaded them into the OutdoorActive app.

Packing list
There are actually not many differences compared to my packing list from my [[Camino Portuguese]] trip. Some notable changes:
- Got rid of the fanny pack, since I ended up using my packable day pack to carry stuff most of the time.
- I brought a lighter power bank. It only holds 5,000 mAh but I figured 20,000 mAh is too much since I usually can charge my stuff in the evening anyway.
- I didn't bring a cable lock since I barely used it in the Camino Portuguese.
- I brought a pair of sand gaiters to keep sand out of my shoes.
- I brought my e-reader (Kobo) because I thought I would have time to chill at the beach. I was right, it added some extra kilograms but provided a much better reading experience compared to iBooks on iPhone.
- I should have brought more Compeeds since this hike is twice longer than the [[Camino Portuguese]] trip; I ended up having to restock my Compeeds in Sagres. There I also found roll-on Compeeds which seems to be way more practical, I should consider it for next time.
- I got rid of my old bulky first aid kit and replaced it with a smaller one to save up space.
